We are thrilled to celebrate Sarah Wood (Class of 2015), who was recently awarded the prestigious Dobell Award at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), University of Melbourne, following her completion of the Music Theatre degree.
The Dobell Award, generously sponsored by Ron and Margaret Dobell, is a significant financial scholarship valued at $25,000. It is awarded to one outstanding student each year, based on overall academic excellence and a competitive audition process. This audition includes performing a monologue, singing a song, and learning a dance routine - all of which Sarah excelled at to secure this remarkable honor.
Sarah’s journey in performing arts began at Loreto, where she was actively involved in numerous productions. From an early role as one of the three cats in Alice in Wonderland during Year 7, to leading roles such as Mabel in FAME in Year 9, she consistently demonstrated her talent and passion. She also took on leading parts in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Sweeney Todd. In Year 12, Sarah expanded her skills by directing scenes of Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat - the inaugural production on the MMC stage and contributed as a narrator.
This award not only celebrates Sarah’s outstanding achievements at the VCA but also reflects the strong foundation in the arts fostered during her time at Loreto. The opportunities opened up by the Dobell Award are expected to greatly support Sarah’s future career in the performing arts.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Sarah and look forward to following her continued success.
