As part of Loreto College Ballarat’s Community Connections program, 22 Year 12 VCE-VM students have been developing practical skills in gardening, construction, cooking and teamwork all while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
At the heart of this initiative are two major projects: creating a produce garden at St Patrick's Cathedral and preparing meals for the community. These projects bring together service, sustainability and hands-on learning, allowing students to put their values into action.
Recently, the students proudly celebrated the official opening of the new Parish Produce Garden at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Ballarat. The garden was blessed by Fr Ed Moloney, with students Lilly, Maya and Tess sharing the story behind this inspiring collaboration, one that blends environmental stewardship, teamwork and community spirit.
This project would not have been possible without the generosity and support of local organisations who helped bring the vision to life. Loreto College extends heartfelt thanks to Midland Irrigation, Wheatland Landscapes, Helen Todd Landscape Design, and Platinum Institute for their time, donations and expertise. Their contribution has been instrumental in creating a space that will continue to serve and nourish the community for years to come.
Through these partnerships, students have deepened their understanding of community engagement, sustainability and faith in action. Loreto College looks forward to seeing collaborations like this continue to grow, creating a lasting and positive impact across the Ballarat community.
